What should I do after O/Ls?
Yesterday evening, after a long waiting period, 2022 G.C.E. O/L results were released to the candidates.
The exams were held from late May to June. The students had some challenging periods when preparing for the exams with the country lockdowns and schools closed for an extended period.
However, everyone did their best in the exam. And now, there may be some ups and downs with the result. So, “what should I do now?” is the question that may have in your mind.
This is not professional guidance, but to show some path for every one of you in your future carrier.
Did you pass the O/Ls?
If you pass the O/L exam with good results, the best thing to do is get ready for you’re A/Ls. Choose your path wisely in this case. Think about the stream that you love, Bio, Math’s, Technology, Commerce or Arts, etc.
First of all, talk with your parents and someone who has prior knowledge. And also, your teachers, elders with updated knowledge in the A/L subjects, or someone who is now studying at the University. Not to mention, they are the best people to get an opinion on the subject matter. That will help with the decision-making for the A/Ls.
Finally, follow your passion, not what your friends try to do or the most popular among your classmates.
Second option
There are some other career paths if you feel not doing A/L’s. BUT IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU’RE A/Ls FIRST!
Some Universities and higher study centers provide foundation courses equivalent to A/Ls, for their Bachelor courses. The Open University of Sri Lanka is a Government University which provides such courses. But you must pay for the programs. And also, external degrees such as the Bachelor of Information Technology provided by the University of Colombo provide foundation courses needed for their bachelor’s degree.
What did I do after O/Ls if I fail?
The GCE Ordinary Level examination is one of the most important exams in a student’s life. However, you may not get what you expect from the exam. But, there is always a second chance for anything. That includes your exam too. And also it’s never too late to do it again and get a good result.
But, if you think of going forward there are lots of career opportunities out there except driving a tuk-tuk around the town or becoming a gangster in the bazaar.
So, why not get a Vocational Education?
Vocational education is an education system that many people do not know and do not pay attention to.
